The Details
A winning combination of amazing wildlife, beautiful volcanoes and time to relax on tropical beaches.
This great trip explores many of the highlights to be found in Costa Rica. Your trip starts in the capital, San Jose, where you’ll spend your first night before heading northwest to Sarapiqui. Surrounded by rainforests and still relatively undiscovered, it’s a great introduction to Costa Rica and is a special place for anyone who has a love of the natural world as well as for those looking for a little activity.
Travelling south, your next stop is La Fortuna where iconic Arenal volcano dominates the landscape. Here you can experience some of the best wildlife and activities Costa Rica has to offer. Choose between forest canopy zip wires, volcano hikes, night hikes, forest treks and walks across hanging bridges suspended over the rainforests.
Next you’ll take a boat across Arenal lake to the famous cloud forests of Monteverde. Home to some of the most endangered species on the planet, in Monteverde you shouldn’t miss out on a night walk or trying to spot the elusive Resplendent Quetzal on a guided bird watching trip.
Rincon de la Vieja, in the north, is an area of volcanoes, geo-thermal activity, rivers and rainforests. This is where the agricultural plains meet the jungle-covered mountains and thermal waters are forced to the surface creating steam vents, bubbling pools of mud and places where you can swim in geo-thermal waters along the hiking trails. After a day exploring, you can relax in the hotel’s soothing hot springs.
After all this excitement and adventure, it’s time to head to the Pacific coast. Tamarindo Bay hosts the golden sweep of Playa Tamarindo, and the town of Tamarindo itself. You can add more tours and activities if you’d like – or simply sit back and relax, sample fresh cocktails on the beach, and enjoy the delicious food in Tamarindo’s many restaurants.
