There are 18 main Islands in the Faroes archipelago, where rugged peaks, sea stacks, and plummeting waterfalls can be found in astonishing abundance. The coastline has some truly breath-taking scenery, and turf-roofed houses are clustered across a grass-blanketed landscape. The majority of the islands are grouped in the north and can all be easily accessed via an excellent network of roads and tunnels. So most people base themselves in Tórshavn, where you have easy access to some excellent restaurants and pubs. Hotels tend to be the best option for most visitors. Self-catering houses are generally aimed at larger groups, and there are some quaint boat-house stays for couples but they are often fairly basic.
Whatever your preference, we can suggest some great places to stay.
