Casa Camila : Cienfuegos
Located overlooking the Caribbean waters at Cienfuegos Bay, the private Casa Camila uniquely offers a boutique hotel style experience for those enjoying a night or two in Cienfuegos.
The French colonial style building dates back to 1891, with wooden gable roofing and tiling. You could certainly be staying in New Orleans and not Cienfuegos ! Interestingly the buildings of this style were produced almost flat packed in the USA and shipped by boat to the French Caribbean. With the local French colonial influence, this building arrived here and is now a protected heritage property in Cuba.
Casa Camila is one of a few very unique buildings in this exclusive neighbourhood called Punta Gorda, which is a 25 minute walk or short drive from the centre. Here in the 1990s a major project was launched to clean up and renovate the area after hurricane damage. Punta Gorda is now a municipal park where locals and visitors visit to swim or stroll along the short promenade to find a vantage point for the sunset.
The owners at Casa Camila take great pride in the high-quality finish throughout their boutique accommodation. The rooms are furnished to a very high standard with modern bathrooms and full air conditioning. Two rooms are duplex style with beds available on the upper floor and downstairs, making the rooms perfect for families or those guests requiring more space.
The terrace at the back of the Casa looks directly onto the ocean and it is possible to jump straight into the water from the comfortable sun deck. Breakfast can be served al fresco on the terrace and the quality of the food served matches that of the stylish accommodation.
There is a small restaurant also open to non residents and its a lovely spot for dinner as the sun sets over the bay.
