Whale Watching
Yes, they really jump out of the water like that!
Humpback whales can be found in two areas of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast: The Golfo Dulce, a tropical fjord east of the Osa peninsula; and the Ballena National Marina Park in the Central Pacific. Whales migrate to reproduce and give birth in the relatively warm, rich and shallow waters of the area.
Humpbacks migrate here from both the Southern and the Northern hemisphere, meaning there’s two seasons where there’s a chance to see these magnificent beasts. Travel between August and October for the highest chance of seeing Antarctic Humpback whales. Between late December and February is when there’s the highest chance of seeing northern Humpback whales
If you’re very lucky you may see whales whilst on the way to your remote lodge on the Osa Peninsula.
