Pachira Lodge
Alongside the river and close to the gateway of Tortuguero National Park, you’ll find Pachira Lodge set in its own little thirty-four-acre rainforest. Located opposite the small village of Tortuguero, the lodge makes the perfect base for a two or three-night stay.
Pachira Lodge has ninety-four en-suite rooms, all with ceiling fans and mosquito nets. Six of these rooms are bungalows for more privacy and one of these has air conditioning – book early if that’s your requirement!
Most people arrive at Tortuguero by taking a fantastic ninety-minute boat transfer which immerses you into the rainforest, giving you a taste of the wildlife and nature experience you can expect in the area. There’s also a small airstrip served by regional turboprop flights but in our opinion it’s by boat that’s the best way to arrive at this pretty oasis.
Your stay includes a guided visit to the village and its museum, plus a dawn journey along the scenic canals – rich in flora and fauna – accompanied by a naturalist. In your free time, you can walk to the nearby beach, hike the rainforest trails, return to the canals in a kayak, or go on a guided evening turtle nesting trip.
Stays in Tortuguero are full-board. After your activities, you can relax by the turtle-shaped pool and look forward to your buffet-style dinner in the open-air restaurant, which offers local and international cuisine.
