Holidays in Baja California – Where is Baja?
Baja California is a peninsula that is part of Mexico, and sits just below the border to California is the USA. Often called ‘the largest natural aquarium in the world’, we think it’s one of the last remaining paradises in the world.
Gray Whales of Baja California
With beaches that rival those found in the Maldives, this long sliver of land separates the Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Cortez and forms Mexico’s most northerly and westerly State.
Ian and his family in Baja California
No more than 250km wide, Baja California encompasses salt flats as well as mountains up to 3096m high, and gorgeous canyons whose walls host rock paintings several thousand years old that are recognised by UNESCO.
Sarah and family in Baja
Baja California is a land of pure contrast; the desert, the oases, the sea teeming with life, the luxurious even opulent hotels, the cacti-filled islands, the strong Mexican culture including the ranchero way of life that paved the way for the US cowboy culture, the beauty of a Pacific sunset from a white sand beach – it’s wild, it’s majestic and it’s enchanting.
Best time to go
The weather is great all year round and it can get particularly hot in the summer months with occasional tropical rains and storms in August and September. Winds are generally stronger and bring cooler air during the winter months – perhaps the best time to visit Baja California. Spring brings warmer temperatures with the least amount of rain. January to March is the best season to see migrating whales give birth in the lagoons.
