Your Cape Verde holiday

Driver guided tour

This is an excellent, if not the best way to see Cape Verde, especially if you only have limited time on the islands. It will also get you to the best places of interest on each island, like Cidade Velha and the beaches of Tarrafal, both on opposite sides of the island of Santiago.

On Santo Antão you will be picked up from the ferry port in Porto Novo, visit Cova de Paul crater and make your way via the old road to picturesque places like Ribeira Grande, fontainhas, Ponta do Sol and of course the beautiful green Paul Valley.

Our driver guided tours are available almost all-year-round and it is definitely a must do for those who can’t get enough of exploring.

Wind surfing

This is windsurf heaven with Sal regularly hosting world class competitions including the world championships inspired by their winning local surfistas! Santa Maria Bay provides excellent conditions for beginners, up to the advanced Ponta Preta quoted by local hero, Josh Angulo, as being the best windsurfing beach in the world.

With water 1-2m deep and a great swell, this is an ideal spot for windsurfers – but remember that the swell can be challenging for beginner swimmers so please use your own judgement for your own capability.

The bay where the school/hire centre is located is stunning with white sand and turquoise seas, a great surf shop and beach restaurant. Surf safaris are also available.

Self-guided walking

You will walk through the most stunning sceneries and the most spectacular of them all is the coastal walk from Cruzinha to Ponta do Sol on Santo Antão. Starting off in the small fishing village of Cruzinha you follow the dramatic coastal path which contours around to the pretty and picturesque mountain village of Fontainhas until you reach the final destination of Ponta do Sol.

Explore the islands at your own pace or combine it with the guided walks we offer with our Cape Verde walking holidays. En route there are plenty of coves and beaches to rest and relax, just see how you feel.

Turtle watching

Cape Verde has the third largest population of nesting loggerhead turtles and most nest on the islands of Boavista and Sal between the months of July and October. With August being the main month for observations.

On both Sal and Boavista there are several small turtle conservation projects aimed at protecting the turtle population and their traditional nesting sites. Join a ranger on a night walk as they collect data and tag turtles. At the end of the walk you can pay to adopt one of the turtles and any money given goes directly to the conservation project.

You are also welcome to pay and visit the hatcheries on both Sal and Boavista, which in turn helps support the various conservation projects on the islands.
