Our latest destination Cuba (yes – yet another archipelago) has been triggered by constant requests from two regular clients who had been wanting to visit Cuba for ages.
Unfortunately, they have been beaten by a Royal Couple, who arrived in Cuba last month (2016). If you had been following the news, Charles and Camilla are the first royal couple to visit this communist island, since Fidel Castro’s death and his brother Raul stepped down as president.
Ever since we’ve had our first Costa Rica bookings, we’d been looking at other Caribbean islands, and none other than Cuba fitted in best with our existing destinations. It’s not generally on most people’s radar, but it’s yet another secret gem waiting to be discovered.
As everything in Cuba is state-owned, the logistics of organising trips are a bit more complicated but with help from colleagues in nearby Curacao and a person on the ground in Havana, we think that our first Cuban tour may be interesting enough to tickle your curiosity.
On our Cuba in Style you’ll have an English-speaking private driver/guide who’ll be with you for the duration of your trip. In other words, you’ll be accompanied by a passionate local who’ll be proud to show you his country. With him you’ll be exploring groovy Havana, hike in rural Viñales, listen to the stories about pirates and corsairs in Cienfuegos, wander through the streets of historical Trinidad, visit Che Guevara’s mausoleum in Santa Clara and at the end chill out on the unspoilt beaches of Cayo Santa Maria.
The accommodation is a mixture of ‘Casa Particulares’ (homestays where the owners live in the same house), Spanish style fincas or small family run hotels. Only in Cayo Santa Maria will you be staying in modern complex, within walking distance of quiet beaches.
