January and February are usually the busiest months if you work in the travel industry in the UK. Fed up with the snow, slush, rain and generally miserable weather, these are the months that people start looking at booking their (summer) family holidays.
In 2017, a survey among UK consumers to get a better understanding of their holiday habits shows that since 2011, Britons have taken more holidays than ever – whether this be abroad or at home.
And I am one of them. In fact, when this blog is posted I will be off skiing somewhere above the Arctic Circle and at night will go out to see whether I can see the Aurora Borealis. Then come summer, I will without a doubt take another trip, somewhere abroad. I have been doing this (taking more than one holiday a year) for many years and didn’t really think anything of it until, I came across the Family Holiday Association when I was working on our new brochures.
This national charity is the only one in the UK dedicated to offering simple seaside breaks and day trips to struggling families. One of the main reasons we go away on holidays is because we want some sunshine, but we also want to have a change of scenery and to re-energise ourselves. Imagine what a short break can do for a family with children under 18 who couldn’t otherwise afford it. A change of scenery and spending family quality time together, whether it’s a day out or a short stay in a caravan, gives a welcome respite and a new sense of hope. And precious memories that will last forever.
The last page of our Azores, Cape Verde, São Tome & Principe and Madeira brochures now feature the Family Holiday Association because we believe that everyone is entitled to have a holiday. This year, I too will donate as I know (just like any other traveller), what a change of scenery can do for the soul.
Do contact us on 01768 721050, if you would like to know more about the Holiday Association and if you want to donate, or if you are interested in one of our holiday brochures.
