Volcanic eruption on Fogo – travel update

Volcanic eruption on Fogo island

The vents continue to smoke on the Cape Verdean island of Fogo today after the eruption which started on Sunday morning (23 November) at around 10 am.  We are pleased to hear that all the people from Cha das Caldeiras have been evacuated and are safe; the monitoring system had already recorded seismic activity the day before giving the villagers some warning as to what might occur.

The airport on Fogo is closed for now but travel to the other islands remains unaffected.  If you are visiting Fogo in the coming months we will be in touch to discuss to discuss your holiday plans and make arrangements for you to visit alternative islands if necessary.
