I’ve been part of the Archipelago Choice team for many years and have been fortunate enough to return to the Azores and Madeira time and again, exploring these beautiful Atlantic islands in depth. What draws me back is the warmth of the people and the extraordinary beauty of the landscapes. In many ways, the islands remind me of our home here in the Lake District, with their green hills, grazing cattle and ever-changing skies, but with added volcanic drama and the Atlantic Ocean never far away.

More recently, my travels have taken me across mainland Portugal, where I’ve been lucky enough to build lasting friendships with the people who call it home. These local connections have shown me a side of Portugal which many visitors never discover: hidden vineyards, remarkable architecture, historic towns and villages, and unforgettable landscapes.

From the wild Atlantic coast of the Algarve to the vineyards of the Douro, the forests of Sintra and the volcanic islands of the Azores, Portugal is a country of extraordinary variety.
