Walking in the Faroes
The Faroe Islands are a paradise for walkers, with countless routes offering breathtaking views and abundant wildlife including puffins, plovers, and petrels. While some footpaths can be indistinct, most are clearly waymarked with cairns and wooden posts to guide your way. For some walks we would recommend a guide to help with route finding and arranging access, and some walks are easily done self-guided.
If you’re used to walking in the Lake District the the Faroe Islands will feel quite familiar – including the sheep and sheepdogs! However, in the Faroe Islands you’re far less likely to see any other walkers if avoid the three or four Instagram hotspots. If you’re looking for a destination to really get away from the crowds – and the heat – of walking in the UK or Europe during the summer then head north to this remote archipelago.
