Stóra Dímun by Helicopter
Helicopters are used as a means of public transport to get locals around the more remote islands of this archipelago. Stóra Dímun is one such islands as it’s surrounded by cliffs with one very precipitous path making it all but impossible to access the only farm on the island. Once a week through the summer you can make the most of a helicopter round trip to visit Stóra Dímun and spend a few hours being shown around by the family that has farmed this island for eight generations.

On the 20-minute flight you get stunning view of the coastlines of Vágar and Sandoy (depending on what side you are you’ll get the views going out or coming back) before landing at the pad next to the farm on Stóra Dímun.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by the couple who run the island’s only farm. They’ll share what it’s like to live and work in such a remote place, where daily life is shaped by both tradition and isolation. Beyond farming, they’ve even created a unique turnip-based ‘wine,’ a testament to their ingenuity. You’ll be invited into their home to enjoy traditional Faroese food and drink, while hearing personal stories about life on Stóra Dímun.
