Brewery & Distillery Tours in the Faroe Islands
Føroya Bjór/Einar’s Distillery, Klaksvík
Founded in 1888, Føroyar Bjór is the oldest brewery in the Faroe Islands and remains a family-run business, now in its fourth generation. From 1907, it was illegal to brew beer stronger than 2.7%, a restriction that lasted until 1980. In 2012, alcohol legislation was further relaxed, allowing the development of stronger spirits. This led to the creation of Einar’s Distillery, named after the second generation of the brewery’s family, and the launch of Einar’s Akvavitt in 2016.

Oy, Tórshavn
Whilst Føroyar Bjór boasts a rich tradition, Oy is the energetic, youthful upstart.Located north of Tórshavn’s city center, Oy combines a brewery, taproom, concert venue, and food hall into a vibrant cultural hub. You can combine a tour of the brewery with a beer walk, starting at the Mikkeller pub in the heart of Tórshavn.

Faer Isles Distillery, Vestmanna
The Faer Isles Distillery is the venture of two Faroese whisky enthusiasts. For years, they dreamed of distilling whisky using traditional Scottish methods as the believe that the unique climate of the Faroe Islands could impart distinctive qualities to the spirit, perhaps even surpassing those of Scotland. When legislation on spirit production was relaxed, they launched their project to produce high-quality whisky. Due to whisky’s long maturation process, they also produce a range of spirits infused with local flavours, including sub-sea vodka and akvavit flavoured with angelica.

Biskupskelda, Vágur
The idea of a nano-brewery was fostered in early 2020, and in 2021 Biskupskelda was founded as the smallest beer brewery in the Faroe Islands. The first beer, Huldugentan (the huldre-girl), a NEIPA beer, was introduced on 19th of March in 2021. Biskupskelda means bishop’s fountain and is the name of the stream north of Vágur on the trail that links the town to its neighbour, Fámjin.
