Gjáargarður Guesthouse
Located in the 400 years old village of Gjógv, the charming Gjáargarður Guesthouse is the perfect location for exploring northern Streymoy, including Slættaratindur — the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands. The rooms are simple but cosy, and all have their own private bathroom. What the Gjáargarður Guesthouse lacks in amenities it more than makes up for in location!
The dining room is a relaxed space with great views out of the large windows, and the food is incredible, as is often the case in the Faroe islands. Breakfast is included and you can opt to have lunch and dinner at the restaurant on site. They will also make up packed -lunches if you are heading out for the day.
Gjógv has one of the best natural harbours in the Faroe Islands and the gorge is a well-known site of outstanding natural scenery. From the guesthouse, you can stroll around the village and walk the 500m to gorge. If you want to go further, head up the flat valley, or ascend the hill to the north east of the guesthouse to get an elevated view of the village. Slættaratindur is a fantastic hike, with some signage, cairns, and the odd chain to assist walking up the final rocky section. But do be aware that there are some steep edges around the summit, so take great care if visibility is bad.
