There are lots of family activities to do on the islands and here are 5 of our favourites:
Turtle watching : One of the most unusual family activities is turtle watching but there can be few things as thrilling as seeing these enormous mysterious creatures emerging from the sea to nest and lay eggs. Between November and March you can either join our guides for a turtle watching excursion after supper, or ask to be woken when the turtles come to your beach!
Jungle trekking : our guided walks through the unspoilt rainforest are an unforgettable experience. Forest covers 90% of the islands and you feel you’ve entered a wonderland as the tree tops high above you sing with colourful endemic birds and you weave your way between the ancient tropical giants.
Equator jumping : marked with a line and a mosaic of the world, the equator is easy to reach from Praia Inhame (you’ll need to take the boat to Rolas islet (30 minutes). It’s great fun to jump between the southern and northern hemispheres!
Boat trips : these are an exhilarating way to get to the best snorkelling spots and secluded beaches; if you’re lucky you may see dolphins and flying fish too! It’s also a real adventure to take a trip through the Malanza River mangrove on a dugout canoe or take to the seas on a kayak…
Swimming and snorkelling : you’ll be spoilt for choice of great snorkelling and swimming spots on São Tomé and Príncipe. From warm, sandy bays for the littlies to deeper crystal clear ocean full of tropical fish for budding marine explorers, a world of wonder awaits.
