The Details
Your holiday begins on the main island of Sao Miguel, in regional capital Ponta Delgada: one of Europe’s most welcoming cities. You’ll spend time exploring the beautiful Sete Cidades crater, and time at sea with the island’s whales and dolphins.
Leaving Sao Miguel, your island hopping begins with a flight to the diminutive island of Flores: celebrated for its arresting landscapes and relaxing isolation. You’ll be staying in the peaceful west coast village of Faja Grande, between the lofty waterfalls of the Ribeira do Ferreiro and the wild Atlantic Ocean.
From Flores, it’s a hop to the island of Faial, for three nights in the picturesque harbour town of Horta. Once a crucial resupply point for trans-Atlantic sailing ships, both Horta and Faial are popular for their colourful maritime feel. One of the Azores’ most impressive volcanic landscapes is here: the striking Capelinhos peninsula, created during a year-long volcanic eruption in the late 1950s.
Leaving Faia, you’ll return to Sao Miguel, heading east for a relaxing end to your holiday in semi-tropical Furnas: famous for its botanical gardens, hot springs and geothermal swimming pools – the perfect location to begin planning your next island hopping holiday to the Azores.
