Villa Seara
Villa Seara is a beautifully renovated farm house in rural wine country, in the village of Passos. Its a tranquil countryside location but is just 30 minutes from Guimaraes, and an hours drive from Porto. It is the life project of Sofia and Martin Cambay, who play an active part in a new generation of wine makers currently making their voices heard across Portugal; small-scale Portuguese wine producers who respect the old traditions of wine making.
Sophia and Martin have carefully preserved the stout granite exteriors of their traditional farm buildings, whilst installing cosy, contemporary interiors that make this a lovely base for those who enjoy being out in the country. The one-bedroomed House sits at the highest point of Villa Seara and is an excellent option for couples, with great kitchen facilities.
Below the house is a converted one-storey barn with one bedroom, and a larger two-storey barn that houses the smaller standard rooms, with a shared kitchen and lounge where guests can socialise in the evenings. The outside spaces between the three buildings – the grassy sun terraces and outdoor pool – are also sociable shared spaces.
Breakfasts of fresh local produce are brought to you each morning – you’ll also have a chance to tour the vineyards, with time to sample Sofia and Martin’s low-intervention, natural wines. And whether you’re a wine aficionado or not, Villa Seara is the perfect, peaceful location to simply relax and unwind.
We’ll usually recommend including a hire car, allowing you to explore the beautiful landscapes of the surrounding Parque Natural do Alvao at your leisure, and the historic cities of Guimaraes and Amarante are a short drive away.
