Vila Gale Lagos
Located on the eastern outskirts of historic Lagos, the Vila Gale is large, contemporary hotel with 130 ensuite rooms and suites divided over five wings. Each wing overlooks a neat, minimalist garden, which in turn leads to an impressive 1,200 m² outdoor pool and sun terrace. For the more energetic visitor, there are outdoor tennis courts, a multi-sports field and a putting green – and the Satsanga spa and indoor panoramic pool are available for post-game relaxation and revival.
Like many of Vila Gale’s hotels, the décor is themed, and the contemporary finish is courtesy of acclaimed Portuguese fashion designers Ana Salazar, Jose Antonio Tenente and Miguel Vieira. Their most-striking contributions can be seen in the two main restaurants, Versátil and Inevitável: original design pieces and curated images taken from their respective runway shows. The more informal Massa Fina Pizzeria, the Soul & Blues Bar and the Splash Bar complete the lineup of inhouse restaurants and bars.
The hotel doesn’t directly overlook Meia Praia beach but it’s just a few minutes’ walk away – at almost 5km in length, it’s usually the quietest beach in and around Lagos. A twenty-minute stroll along the sand (or a five-minute taxi ride) brings you to Lagos’ modern marina – your stepping-off point if you’re including dolphin watching or sea kayaking trip during your stay – and the charming zona velha old town district of Lagos is just across the Ponte Elevatoria bridge.
