Viceroy Ombria Algarve
Perched on a secluded hilltop outside the old market town of Loule, the Viceroy Ombria is part of a movement which has been gathering pace: a collective mission to redefine the Algarve as a tranquil escape from the pressures of modern life.
That’s reflected in its design: taking its cues from the traditional architecture of the region’s farming communities, it has the deliberate look and feel of a rural village. It’s consciously irregular in both its layout, and the size and shape of the buildings; as though it evolved naturally over time.
That’s not to say the interiors are basic or ordinary – like the best contemporary Portuguese design, the Standard rooms and Suites are luxurious and comfortable, without feeling fussy or cluttered. The larger Residences provide a home-from-home, with the addition of an open plan kitchen diner.
Unlike a traditional farming community, there’s also a state-of-the-art fitness centre and spa, two outdoor pools, and a sun terrace, with a sweeping view across the citrus grove and poplars which surrounding the Ombria. There’s also an 18-hole golf course which sits discretely into the rolling landscape.
Thanks to its secluded location, we usually recommend a half-board stay, and you’re well catered for when it comes to dining. The wood-fired Ombria Kitchen has the laid-back feel of a family cozinha, whilst at Solalua the specialities are cocktails and small plate petiscos. Café Central and the Salpico pool bar are sociable hubs during the daytime – in the evening, sports enthusiasts often gravitate to Casa e Fora: sunset enthusiasts toast the end of another perfect day from the rooftop Bellvino wine bar.
