Top places to stay in Namibia

Travel Guide by Archipelago Choice

Namibia is an incredible country, with endless opportunities to see wildlife, thrilling game drives across a variety of national parks, and spectacular desert landscapes. And the accommodation options are as much a part of the adventure, because Namibia is known for its luxury lodges and desert camps. Awake each morning to the sounds of the desert, swim in open-air pools, dine outdoors, and enjoy sundowners around the firepit. Many of the lodges have watering holes and free-roaming animals on site, and there are a fantastic range of options in all of the key locations and we’ve selected a handful of really special ones, to get you started.

Whatever option you prefer, we will find you something you will love in the locations you choose to visit.

Onguma Bush CampFor Etosha National Park

There are many places to stay in and around Etosha National Park but Onguma bush camp is particularly nice, pairing comfort and a touch of luxury with African charm and wonderful wildlife. The grounds of the camp are beautiful and you can enjoy a range of activities, such as game drives through eastern side of Etosha, guided bush walks in the early morning, or breakfast out in the bush.

Okonjima Bush CampFor Leopard Tracking

Big cats, such as lion, cheetah, and leopard, can be found in several parks throughout Namibia, but the leopard can be notoriously elusive. That’s why we always recommend Okonjima Nature Reserve, where you can head out leopard tracking with a ranger. Okonjima has a range of accommodation options but the luxury bush camp is a real treat and immerses you in your natural surroundings.

Mowani Mountain Camp – for the elephants of Damaraland

When you stay at Mowani Mountain Camp, you will feel a little like you are in the flintstones. The thatched huts, all with lavish interiors, are dotted amongst rounded granite boulders, and the surroundings are incredibly picturesque. Here, you are in the Damaraland region, where you can enjoy game drives to see elephants and black rhino, ancient rock art, and the Damara Living Museum, where you can learn all about the San people (bushmen).

Mowani Mountain Camp, Namibia

Elegant Desert Eco CampFor the giant dunes of Sossusvlei

At the Elegant Desert Eco Camp, you are far out in the Namib Desert, with nothing but the flat desert floor and the distant mountains as far as the eye can see. This tented camp is more rustic than some of the luxury lodges, but would still be considered ‘glamping’, with comfortable beds, showers, and an incredible mountain-top pool. Enjoy the desert calm and visit the nearby giant dunes of Sossusvlei, the scorched trees in the Deadvlei clay pan, and Sisriem Canyon.

Ai-Aiba Rock Painting Lodge rock paintings in Erongo Mountains

Ai-Aiba rock painting lodge sits on the edge of the Erongo Mountains and it’s an absolutely wonderful location. The small collection of spacious huts are nestled between two granite bounder peaks. The comfortable rooms and lounge area offer fantastic mountain views, you really are in the heart of Namibia. From your lodge, you can enjoy guided walks and mountain bike adventures, and guided drives to see the ancient rock paintings, created by the San people who used iron oxides and animal blood to create scenes of hunting, and animal drawings.
