Central Namibia bordering the Kalahari
The Kalahari Desert has a name which resonates with many of us, a place we’ve heard of but know little about. The Kalahari runs down through central Namibia and stretches into Botswana and parts of South Africa.
The Kalahari is considered a semi-arid desert as there is some rainfall which is absorbed into the soft sands. At some 900m above sea level the landscape is almost featureless, with occasional rock outcrops called Kopjes, scatterings of acacia trees, desert adapted plants and dunes.
Considered a more remote part of Namibia it still holds some interesting wildlife experiences and depending on where in the Kalahari you are it’s possible to see giraffe, zebra, elephant along with predators like lion, cheetah, leopard and foxes. More common species tend to be warthogs, anteaters and baboon to name a few.
