The Cliff Bay Hotel
For a large city hotel, the Cliff Bay feels wonderfully secluded. As you stroll through the beautifully manicured tropical gardens, it’s easy to forget you’re just a stone’s throw from the centre of the capital Funchal, and it’s lofty position provides sweeping, unobstructed views across the Atlantic.
Taking the lift down the bluff brings you to the outdoor pool, with it’s sprawling sun terrace and Blue Lagoon Restaurant. There’s easy access to the sea and introductory snorkelling classes are available for free. There’s also a child-friendly pool and an indoor pool, gym and spa.
The Cliff Bay is famous for it’s Michelin-starred Il Gallo d’Oro restaurant – the brainchild of Chef Benoît Sinthon, showcasing the best of the island’s fresh, seasonal produce. There’s also the Rose Garden restaurant with it’s Mediterranean menu, and the Cliff Bar and Bistro for cocktails as the sun sets.
The specious guest rooms all have private balconies, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee-making facilities and twenty-four room service. The suites and top floor rooms are even larger, with the added bonus of breakfast at the Il Gallo d’Oro.
