The historic main house was originally constructed as a private country residence, and is home to the Estalagem’s superior rooms.They have a very homely-feel and retain many of the original features of the manor house: high ceilings, intricate cornicing and Georgian-esque sash windows, complimented by carefully chosen traditional-Madeiran furniture.
The standard rooms in the new wing have a more modern feel – wooden floors and pastel-shades reflect the classic-feel of the superior rooms, but with a more contemporary style. Standard rooms also come with their own private balconies, looking out over the breath-taking Ribeira de Sao Vicente valley.
There is also an outdoor pool and wellness centre, and the excellent ‘O Caramujo’ restaurant serves delicious Madeiran dishes, accompanied by a great selection of local and mainland wines. Cooking classes with Head-chef Roberto, using the best local produce to prepare your own traditional Madeiran dishes.
