Art Deco Central Apartments
Located in the very centre of the Madeiran capital, this newly refurbished Art Deco building is ideal if you’re looking to surround yourselves with the day-to-day bustle of Funchal.
There are six open-plan studio apartments in total, two on each floor with street-facing balconies. Apartments 1A and 1B (on the 1st floor) and 2A and 2B (on the second) are the most spacious – apartments 3A and 3B are smaller, but their more-elevated balconies overlook the canopy of tipuana trees, whose petals famously turn the Avenida Zarco yellow in the spring. The décor is clean and contemporary, with fully equipped kitchens which include a 4-ring electric induction cooker, microwave, undercounter fridge/freezer, expresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster – and to match their slightly reduced footprints, apartments 3A and 3B have smaller kitchens. Apartments 1A and 2A can be arranged with either twin beds or as a super-king double, whereas the other four apartments all come with a king-sized double bed, and all the apartments are ensuite with walk in showers. There’s also a lift to all floors and free Wi-Fi throughout the building.
Location-wise, Funchal’s pedestrianised shopping district is on your doorstep, with the Se Cathedral, marina and Blandy’s wine lodge are a two-minute walk away, and the main farmers market and Zona Velha old town district just five-minutes further.
