Oásis Atlântico White Hotel
The Oásis Atlântico White Hotel is situated on the north western coastline of Boavista, in the small city of Sal Rei.
Just a couple of blocks away from the white sands of Estoril Beach and a two minute walk from the city centre, the Oasis White Hotel is perfectly located. It’s a modern establishment, with sixty-seven rooms, a 24hr reception and friendly staff. All of the rooms have a balcony (though only some have a sea view), en suite bathroom, air conditioning and safe. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are kept clean and, for a fee, there is a laundry service, which is particularly useful if you plan to get involved in the water-sport activities on offer at the beach.
The Hotel has a relaxed restaurant, where you can enjoy a continental style breakfast. There is a bar at the restaurant and another on the rooftop terrace, where you’ll also find two small pools and a little fitness area. The rooftop terrace is a lovely place to enjoy a cocktail in the evening because you have panoramic views over the Praia do Estoril beach.
A short stroll will take you to the Alisios Beach Club, which has indoor and outdoor seating and serves delicious Cape Verdean and International Cuisine. Right next door is the Windclub, where you can hire a wide range of sporting equipment, from surfboards to e-bikes and jet skies to snorkelling sets. We also highly recommend taking a guided tour of the island by jeep and, in the evening, you can go on a four hour star-gazing excursion. The star gazing excursion includes an expert guide, who will to talk you through the various constellations, galaxies and planets, seen through the naked eye as well as through a telescope. You can also go whale watching from the islet of Sal Rei from Feb-May, where the humpback whales come to feed and raise their young until they are strong enough to swim out into the great Atlantic seas. Boavista is also the third most important location in the world for turtle watching, they nest between July and October but August is the main month for observations (to see the turtles, we can arrange a transfer to the southern end of the island).
The direct translation of Sal Rei is ‘salt king’, a Portuguese name given to the city due to the island’s salt production industry. The vast majority of the population live along the beautiful coastline and Sal Rei is the main hub, so it’s a good place to stay. Away from the coast, the rest of Boavista is strikingly barren, with an almost moon-like landscape and only the hardy date trees to break up the endless expanse of sand and rock.
