Casa Colonial
The beautifully restored Casa Colonial in Mindelo on Sao Vicente was once a Portuguese colonial house and is now a charming and characterful hotel in the heart of the city.
Each of the nine en-suite rooms is either twin or double, but extra beds can be added on request. Some of the doubles contain four-poster beds and much thought has been given to the décor, resulting in a true ’boutique’ character to the casa. To maintain the old-world charm, rooms do not feature a TV, telephone or air conditioning, though a cool breeze is usually sufficient to keep the temperature down.
Breakfast can be enjoyed upstairs on the covered terrace and is varied and plentiful with fresh fruit, cereals, cheeses, cold meats and delicious omelettes.
There is an inner courtyard with plunge pool, seats to relax in, sun umbrellas for shade and a variety of plants to add to the calm ambience. There’s a delightful roof terrace with great views of Mindelo and it turns into a charming venue for an early evening drink.
The centre of town, with its choice of restaurants, bars and live music venues, is nearby and easily accessible on foot.
