Casa Cavoquinho
High in the beautiful green Paul Valley on the island of Santo Antão, lies the attractive Casa Cavoquinho.
The Casa Cavoquinho is in an lovely location. It’s particularly ideal if you’re walking down from Cova Crater because it’s in the first village you come to. The charming village of Cha de Manuel dos Santos is a welcome sight after your walk down the steep zig zag path from the crater. The Casa Cavoquinho is easy to find due to it’s striking colour, and has comfortable en-suite rooms on several floors. All rooms have amazing views down the green and sweeping Paul Valley. Extra beds can be arranged for families in the larger bedrooms.
The two terraces with free Wi-Fi access have tables and comfortable chairs. You can relax and take in the surrounding scenery, where bananas and sugar cane grow. Breakfast consists of local jams and coffee, and of course the delicious home-made goat’s cheese that is so popular on the island. Dinners are prepared with seasonal products from local farmers, or from its own garden. All the meals can be adapted for any dietary requirements.
The Casa is a good base if you want to do some walking in the area. The friendly owners will be more than happy to point you to some good paths. There is also a trapiche in the valley, where you can see (and taste) how they make grogue. This local spirit is made from sugar cane and is very popular amongst the locals.
Like nearby Casa das Ilhas, Casa Cavoquinho runs a project to help the local school. You are always welcome to visit the school, and perhaps donate some pens, children’s books, and other teaching materials.
