Hacienda Suites, a boutique hotel in Loreto Bay
Hacienda Suites is a boutique hotel just a 15 minute walk from the peaceful town of Loreto. The rooms are simple but there is a wonderful garden and pool area with a bar selling cocktails, and a good buffet breakfast is served outside, under draping bougainvillea. This is ideal for those who prefer a more traditional and characterful hotel, with relaxed shared spaces. Loreto is a really pretty town, the oldest on the peninsula of Baja California. Loreto Bay is a UNESCO World heritage site, with white sands and turquoise waters, five little islands to explore, and lots of water sports activities on offer.
Hotel Catedral, in the historic part of La Paz
If you’re looking to stay in La Paz then you can’t do much better than Hotel Catedral. Its modern interiors offer a comfortable stay within the historic part of the city, and its has a rooftop terrace with a pool and lounge area that overlooks the city and cathedral. It has a relaxed courtyard area and a really great restaurant on site. You can walk from the hotel to the shops and restaurants in town and can enjoy evening walks along the promenade. There are caves above the city that are fun to explore on foot, and you simply must enjoy a trip onto the water, because these beaches easily rival those found in the Maldives.
La Poza Boutique Hotel and Spa, Todos Santos beachside retreat
This is one of our favourite top places to stay in Baja California. La Paz Boutique Hotel and Spa is a luxurious retreat, next to a lagoon and a few steps from Playa Todos Santos. There are 13 individual suites, including six large canvas domes. This place is perfect for those who like all of the luxuries and amenities of modern living, but also like places with a little rustic charm. The on-site restaurant is excellent and its just a 30 minute walk into the centre of Todos Santos, a pretty little town adorned with colourful bunting, beautifully painted shop fronts, and large bougainvillea plants that enhance the vibe of the town. This hotel, which is really more of a retreat, offers a variety of spa treats and you can enjoy relaxing in the sauna.
Loreto Bay Golf Resort and Spa, a premium bay area outside Loreto
The highlight of staying at the Loreto Bay Golf Resort and Spa is the location. It’s in a premium beach location, in Nopoló Bay. The bay is sheltered by a large island that spans almost the entire length of the bay, making it perfect for activities like swimming, snorkelling, and paddleboarding. Loreto Bay National Park is a marine eco-system where you can enjoy lots of wildlife, from dolphins, pelicans, and sea lions, to the tropical fish that swim around you. If you visit between mid-January and March you can head out whale watching to spot the blue whales who migrate here. The resort has all of the facilities needed to make your stay comfortable, with a good restaurant, relaxing poolside areas, spa facilities, and plenty of activities to keep you entertained.
