Serpentario Reptile Shelter
If you’re staying in La Paz, you’re in for a treat because there are loads of activities on offer here. A nice place to visit if you have a little bit of time is El Serpentario De La Paz, in the La Posada neighbourhood. It’s an hour walk from the centre of La Paz, so you may want to get a taxi.

The sanctuary is best known for its reptiles: iguanas, alligators, and a large variety of snake species, such as pythons and rattlesnakes. If you’re there during feeding time, you will learn about the snake’s feeding habits! You can also enjoy guinea pigs and rabbits, tortoise, water turtles and an aviary full of colourful birds. Most animals are rescues and will be rehabilitated here.
The Serpentario centre is open all year round, offering educational tours led by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
