Serpentario Reptile Shelter
If you’re staying in La Paz, you’re in for a treat because there are loads of activities on offer here. A nice place to visit if you have a little bit of time is El Serpentario De La Paz, in the La Posada neighbourhood. Its an hour walk from the centre of La Paz, so you may want to get a taxi.

The santuary is best known for its reptiles, such as iguana and snakes. There are lots of different types of rattle snake, including the rattle-less snake, and an aviary full of very colourful and vocal birds. Most animals are rescues and will be rehabilitated here. As well as the snakes, you can see guinea pigs and rabbits, tortoise, water turtles, alligators, and much more. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to be there at feeding time to learn about the pythons’ and rattlesnakes’ feeding habits!
You can visit the centre all year round and enjoy an educational tour, led by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
