NEW Carbon Scheme with The Woodland Trust

We’re really proud to have teamed up with The Woodland Trust to introduce our new Carbon Scheme. They are the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity whose aims are to protect old trees and woodlands and plant new woods for the future.

All of our clients will now have the opportunity to contribute £5 per person towards this scheme when they pay the balance on their holiday. This is a voluntary contribution and will be used to plant broadleaved trees in Cumbria, UK where we are based.

These trees will not only take up carbon from the atmosphere but will also help to :

–      increase biodiversity : trees are really important for birds and insects as well as providing homes for lichens and fungi

–      prevent erosion and improve soils : roots bind soil helping to prevent erosion and leaf litter helps create soil

–      improve water quality : trees can help to mitigate pollution in water and also reduce flooding

–      keep rivers cool : trees along rivers support wildlife in rivers by providing shade, leaf litter and temperature control

–      increase bugs and beetles in rivers : bugs and beetles need food sources and leaves are an important food source

The trees we plant will be within schemes across Cumbria and they will be managed so that they become mature trees and support wildlife well into the future. Our UK staff will also be taking part in planting some of these trees.

First Woodland Trust Tree Planting Day

Our first tree planting day was on Sunday 25th January. We had a wild windswept day helping to plant 600 trees around Coledale Beck near Keswick.

Here are some photos of the Archipelago Choice team getting stuck in!

As you can see the whole team had a great day out around Coledale Beck planting trees for the Woodland Trust and we’re looking forward to our next carbon scheme adventure.
