Doro Nawas

The lodge at Doro Nawas has been built on a hilltop close to the dry Aba-Huab river, where desert adapted elephants roam, and is surrounded by the enormous rugged beauty of Damaraland and the Etendeka Mountains.

The 16 thatched bungalows, including a family bungalow, are spacious and guests are encouraged to wheel their beds out onto the veranda and sleep under the stars.  All bungalows have private bathrooms with inside and outside showers.  Meals are served on the roof or in the restaurant, and guests can cool down in the outdoor pool.

The 450 strong community living on the 400,000 hectare Doro !Nawas conservancy are very much involved with the camp.  The community are not only landlords, but the camp – born out of community-based eco tourism, is 40% theirs too.   The staff team are all from the community and it’s wonderful to meet them and learn about their environment on wildlife and scenic drives, cultural visits, geological excursions and guided nature walks.
