Aqua Natura Madeira
If you love the sea, this is the place to stay – and if you love to swim, you’ll be in heaven. Restless Atlantic breakers provide a continuous soundtrack to life in the small seaside village of Porto Moniz – famous for it’s Piscinas Naturais seawater swimming pools, which are protect from (but also fed directly by) the ocean.
At first glance, Aqua Natura Madeira almost looks hewn from the surrounding windswept rocky coastline. This relatively-small hotel has twenty-five comfortably modern rooms, each with it’s own private balcony overlooking the swimming pools and out to sea. There’s also an excellent restaurant with an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy your sunset-filled evenings.
Porto Moniz itself is a friendly coastal community in the remote northwest corner of Madeira. We’ll normally recommend including a hire car during your stay, to allow you to explore this secluded region of the island – it’s a less-populated area which is often overlooked by visitors to the island, making the north-west a pleasantly-peaceful place to be.
